My Career Objectives Essay Example For Students

My Career Objectives Essay All people have challenges and goals theyll work towards, and fight for throughout their lifetime. A goal Id like to accomplish and will work towards in the next four years is attaining a Bachelors Degree and entry into New York University School of Medicine. Ive dreamt of reaching Match day ever since I saw my aunt (who’s, now, a doctor) smile ear to ear; after being told she would be practicing right here in Syracuse, New York. ‘Match Day’ can be defined as, â€Å"Access to graduate medical training programs such as residencies is a competitive process known as the Match. Senior medical students usually begin the application process at the beginning of their (usually) fourth and final year in medical school. After they apply to programs, programs review applications and invite selected candidates for interviews held between October and February. After the interview period is over, students submit a rank-order list to a centralized matching service (currently the National Resident Matching Program, abbreviated NRMP) by February. Similarly, residency programs submit a list of their preferred applicants in rank order to this same service. (â€Å"Residency (medicine)†). I love hearing my aunts ED stories; which range anywhere from the girl who had just threatened to beat her down, or how fascinated she was when she had to feel her way around someones lungs and stomach through a bullet wound. I dont want to enter a profession where Ill be miserable due to being stuck in a stuffy-lifeless building all day. Having my own practice would certainly allow me to avoid that by giving me the option of personalizing the environment in which I will work the rest of my life. My strong lust for the Medical field and my ability to work well and make quick decisions in high-pressure situations is a trait that will be well utilized to my advantage in this profession. Ever since elementary school, I have always been an incredibly determined, and driven person for everything that I set out to do. I love to help people, and make a difference in the lives of those who are in need. This is in part of what gives me the drive to become a doctor; I believe this will be the most enjoyable way of making a difference in peoples lives. Why? Because the experience of saving someones life, seems as though it would be one to remember. A wise scholar once said to me, â€Å"If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. † (qtd. from Jo Ann Fox-Wright). This quote is one that I will live by, in that I love taking care of people; and by doing that for a career, I plan on never working a day in mu life. My inspiration was also due to real life situations. When I was younger, I was always, and still am, the caretaker amongst many other personality types that I associated with. I always took animals in, and cared for them until they recovered from whatever it was that was affecting them to the extent of needing my assistance. Knowing I saved an animals life made me proud, and was one of the most eye-opening experiences that pushed me towards wanting to be a doctor. Despite having the fear of being â€Å"hard-pressed to find research positions or other opportunities within a school’s hospital or medical center. † (â€Å"The pre-med struggle bus: pros cons of 7-year bs/md programsI aspire to major in Pre-Medicine or one of the sciences. †), I still aspire to major in Pre-Medicine. This major will benefit me in the sense that it will put me on track to becoming a strong and successful medical student. I will utilize my perseverance skills I acquired during high school to work hard on all of my coursework, volunteer activities, clinical experiences, research, and the medical school application process. With a broad perspective on what its like to be a medical student I believe that this is a goal I can accomplish. Academically speaking, I may have not been the strongest student in high school. I am currently enrolled at Onondaga Community College(OCC), trying to attain my associates degree in math and science. Sex Education Messages in the Media EssayWhat I concluded from this interview is that reaching my goals is definitely not going to be easy, but I will need to bare down and devote majority of my time to getting good grades throughout college, and medical school to thereby make a name for myself as a medical practitioner; if I want to overcome this obstacle. Anesthesiologists earn, on average, a salary of approximately $300,000 annually, and can expect to earn upwards of $450,000 with experience. Many anesthesiologists receive a bonus in addition to salary, and anesthesiologists working in specific areas such as cardiology or pediatrics are paid at a premium (Anesthesiologist Information, n. d). The salary of any medical profession varies from state to state, as the demand for doctors all over differs. After succeeding in becoming an Anesthesiologist, I plan using my salary to move south along the east cost; where I will work until I retire at the age of 60. At this point in my life, I will be the happiest I have ever been, for I will have been successful at accomplishing each, and every single aspect of dreams. Being successful to me, means that I am for the most part happy and in good health(spiritually, mentally, and physically). I want to own a 4-5 bedroom, 3-5 bathroom house with a lot of land surrounding it. I would like to marry, and have one child. I also want to have a professionally built kennel for a ton of dogs which I will breed, train, and sell. I plan on devoting majority of my time to these ambitions. Medical practice is a well-respected profession, as its main goal is to help those, who require much-needed help. I look forward to becoming a pre med major at the school of my dreams, and furthermore taking the first- among many steps towards becoming a doctor. Becoming a doctor definitely will not stop me from continuing to partake in my favorite hobbies such as Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, and other activities I can do when I’m off of work, or simply have a bit of free time. I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for me, as I make my way through, over, under, and around the obstacles that are before me while becoming an Anesthesiologist.

Against Death Penalty Essay free essay sample

The death penalty should be used less because of the murder rates are slowly dropping, Prejudice against the defendants, and the costs of the death sentence. A reason to stop the death sentencing is because the murder rates are slowly declining. In the west region of the United States the murder rate was 5. 6 murders in 2006 then dropped to 5. 3 murders in 2007. In the Northeast region of the United States the murder rates were 4. 5 murders per every 1000,000 in 2006 and dropped to 4. 1 per 100,000 in 2007. The Murder rates are slowly dropping meaning a decreased need for the death penalty. Another reason for not using the death penalty is because of prejudice from the jury and possible the judge. The death penalty shouldn’t be used because the jury and the judge could be prejudiced against the defendant and give an unfair verdict. Many people have been accused and given a death sentence when it was found out that they were innocent years later. We will write a custom essay sample on Against Death Penalty Essay or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Giving a second chance to a criminal can mean a lot to them. They can think about what sins they have commited and are given time in a solitary confinement to straighten their path and minds. Also, Professor Brooke Butler of University of South Florida released a study showing that jurors were more inclined to the death penalty for women, homosexuals, and people of different races. Another study by Professor Scott Phillips of the University of Denver showed that the District Attorney was more likely to impose the death sentence upon black defendants than on white defendants. The death penalty is a huge decision in a court case, having a prejudice against the defendant could have very serious consequences on the defendants. While the death sentence is a very important, it is also a very expensive decision. The cost of a single execution could never be close to be compared to a regular court case. A study from the University of North Carolina showed that a capital case could be 200,000 more dollars than a non-capital case. Studies of the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California stated that the costs from all of the expenses could cost up to 1,000,000 dollars just to perfectly complete a capital punishment. These factors are very important in deciding to charge the defendant with the death penalty. The death sentence is a very important decision and could also over turn a sentence because of these factors. Every man/ and or woman should deserve a second chance to set a new righteous path. The murder rates are slowly dropping all over the country. There could be prejudice in the jury which could cause a shift in the verdict unfairly. The cost of the whole case could go into the millions just for one court case. So if you ever find yourself in the position on a murder jury, then please do the right thing.

Differences Between Baleen and Toothed Whales

Differences Between Baleen and Toothed Whales Cetaceans are a group of aquatic mammals which include all the varieties of whales and dolphins. There are over 80 recognized species of cetaceans, including both freshwater and saltwater natives. These species are divided into two main groups: the baleen whales  and the toothed whales. While they are all considered whales, there are some important differences between the two types.   Baleen Whales Baleen is a substance made of keratin (the protein that makes up human fingernails). Baleen  whales have as many as 600 plates of baleen in their upper jaws.   Whales strain seawater through the baleen, and hairs on the baleen capture fish, shrimp, and plankton. The salt water then flows back out of the whales mouth. The largest baleen whales strain and eat as much as a ton of fish and plankton each day. There are 12 species of baleen whales which live all over the world. Baleen whales were (and still sometimes are) hunted for their oil and ambergris; in addition, many are injured by boats, nets, pollution, and climate change. As a result, some species of baleen whales are endangered or near extinction. Baleen whales: Are generally larger than toothed whales. The largest animal in the world, the blue whale, is a baleen whale.Feed on smaller fish and plankton with a filtering system made up of hundreds of baleen plates.Tend to be solitary, although they occasionally gather in groups to feed or to travel.Have two blowholes on top of their head, one right next to the other (toothed whales have only one).Female baleen whales are larger than males of the same species. Examples of baleen whales include the blue whale, right whale, fin whale, and humpback whale. Toothed Whales It may come as a surprise to learn that the toothed whales include all species of  dolphins  and porpoises. In fact, 32 species of dolphins and 6 species of porpoises are toothed whales. Orcas, sometimes called killer  whales, are actually the worlds largest dolphins. While whales are larger than dolphins, dolphins are large (and more talkative) than porpoises.   Some toothed whales are freshwater animals; these include six species of river dolphins. River dolphins are freshwater mammals with long snouts and small eyes, which live in rivers in Asia and South America. Like baleen whales, many species of toothed whales are endangered. Toothed whales: Are generally smaller than baleen whales, although there are some exceptions (e.g., the sperm whale and Bairds beaked whale).  Are active predators and have teeth that they use to catch their prey and swallow it whole. The prey varies depending on species but can include fish, seals, sea lions or even other whales.Have a much stronger social structure than baleen whales, often gathering in pods with a stable social structure.Have one blowhole on top of their head.Unlike baleen whales, males of toothed whales species are usually larger than females. Examples of toothed whales include the beluga whale, bottlenose dolphin, and common dolphin.
